Toward the Molokai Channel Crossing
Starting today, I'm heading to Hawaii for five days ahead of the Molokai Channel crossing.
This channel is known as the "Channel of Bones." As the name suggests, it is not an easy one to cross.
But I want to let go of seeing it only as a race. I do not want to compare myself to anyone, or compete with anyone.
If I focus on each swell, one by one, and try to move in harmony with the ocean, I believe I will eventually reach the finish.
With what I learned from last year's challenges, I hope I can cross the channel with no regrets.
Three years ago, when I came here as a supporter, I was swallowed by a big wave, almost drowned, and could not even get on the boat.
Looking back now, it still feels like a kind of trauma. But at the same time, I think it was a really valuable experience.
How different the ocean here is from Japan. How difficult, and how fun, it is to paddle in an environment you are not used to.
Without that experience, I do not think I would feel the way I do now.
With all of that in mind, I hope these five days become the best experience possible, and that I can return to Japan with something important.
I will be posting a blog about Hawaii every day, so I hope you will read along!
